What you are agreeing to
A merchant cash advance provides a lump sum that is repaid from future sales or deposits, commonly through small frequent debits. The application is short: about three months of business bank statements, no tax returns and a soft credit pull on a five-minute form. Rates and terms depend on the business and are not published here. Funding runs from $25,000 to $5,000,000 and can arrive in as little as 24 hours.
What you agree to is a payment that continues in a slow week as well as a strong one.
The Oceanside calendar
Wikipedia lists a series of draws across the year: the Thursday-evening Sunset Market downtown, the pier, the harbor, and annual events such as the Beach Soccer Championships and the Turkey Trot, which it says hosts approximately 9,000 runners and walkers. Event days bring concentrated sales. The days between them can be quiet.
That pattern is useful to know before taking a daily-debit product. If most of your revenue lands on a few weekends, the daily debit is hardest to carry between those weekends.
Fit check for local businesses
| Business | Revenue pattern | Concern |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown restaurant | Weekend and event peaks | Midweek debit versus midweek sales |
| Surf or beach retail | Heavy in summer | Winter months |
| Mobile trades | Even, but invoices lag | Debits before payment arrives |
| Event vendor | Concentrated bursts | Long gaps between events |
When another product is smarter
If your gap repeats every month, a line of credit is usually kinder. If you want payment to follow sales, read about revenue-based financing. If you already carry an advance, see MCA relief before adding another.
For illustration only: if your slowest week brings in $6,000 and the debits take $2,100 of it, you have $3,900 for payroll, rent and stock. If that figure already worries you, consider a smaller amount or a different product.
Questions to put to any offer
- What is the total amount to be repaid, in dollars, and what am I receiving?
- How is the debit set, daily or weekly, and can it change?
- Is there any benefit to repaying early?
- What happens if a week's deposits fall short?
Write the answers down before you sign. An offer that cannot answer these in plain language is worth setting aside, however quickly it can fund.
Also compare the amount you need with the amount offered. Taking more than the purchase requires raises the payment without raising the benefit.
A short example (illustration only)
A downtown restaurant deposits roughly $3,200 on weekend days and $1,400 on weekdays. A $400 daily debit takes about 13% of a weekend day and 29% of a weekday. That is tight but workable if weekday margins hold. The same debit against a business that collects one large payment a month is far harder, since the money leaves every day from an account that sits low for weeks. These figures are examples, not our terms or a typical outcome.
