What we need to see
We review about three months of business bank statements. A business with no account activity has nothing for a statement-based review to read; a business with a few months of deposits does. We fund $25,000 to $5,000,000, consider FICO 500 and above, do not require tax returns, and sole proprietors can apply.
Where startups begin in Oxnard
Oxnard has 202,063 residents (2020 census) over about 39.14 square miles, and Wikipedia places it at the western edge of the fertile Oxnard Plain. Wikipedia lists agriculture, trade, manufacturing, defense and tourism, plus finance, transportation, high tech and energy. A new business can serve any of those directly, or serve the households that work in them.
- Service for the ag and port economy: equipment repair, packaging supply, delivery.
- Coastal and visitor-facing: food, rentals, retail.
- Trades and small manufacturing: fabrication, installation, maintenance.
Timeline of a first year (example)
| Window | Typical cash issue | Useful step |
|---|---|---|
| Months 1-3 | Costs exceed deposits | Run everything through the business account |
| Months 3-6 | First real gap: stock, vehicle, hire | Apply with clean statements and a stated use |
| Months 6-12 | Repeat gaps as work grows | Compare a line of credit with other options |
For illustration only: $10,000 monthly deposits and a $25,000 need is a conversation worth having at month three. Round numbers, not our terms.
Which product a young business tends to consider
Working capital for early stock and payroll; equipment financing for a first vehicle or machine; a line of credit later, as draws become frequent. Think hard about daily-repayment products early; see merchant cash advance and, if it has gone wrong, MCA relief.
What helps a thin file
A business only a few months old will have a short record, and that is expected. A plain note listing what you sell, who your first customers are and what the money buys goes a long way. Keep the business account separate from personal funds, make deposits traceable to sales and avoid moving large round amounts in and out that you cannot explain.
If there are one-time deposits, such as an owner contribution, label them as such so they are not read as revenue.
Choosing the first purchase
Many owners spend first on the visible things, such as signage and fit-out, and run out of money for stock and wages. Rank every proposed cost by how soon it produces revenue, and fund the fastest first. A new business that makes its first sales early builds the statement history that makes later funding easier.
